National Immunization Awareness Month

August is National Immunization Awareness Month. Maybe you’ve recently adopted a pet, but haven’t been able to get them vaccinated yet. Waste no more time, bring them in to Tulsa Veterinary Hospital: Paw Prints Ltd to get them protected.

What Vaccines Does Your Pet Need?

  • Rabies: The rabies vaccine is required by law, and can only be administered by a licensed veterinarian, such as those here at Paw Prints Ltd.
  • DHPP: The vaccinations against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus are given in one easy combo shot.
  • Depending on the type of pet and their age, other vaccines may be recommended by Tulsa Veterinary Hospital.

Why Vaccinate Your Pet?

Rabies is fatal, and can spread to other animals, including humans. A rabies vaccine is required in order to license your dog or cat, a requirement by Tulsa law. Without up-to-date vaccines, your pet is exposed to contagious diseases. Even if your pet is kept indoors, they may still be exposed to airborne diseases.

How Will Your Pet React to the Vaccines?

Side effects of vaccinations are generally very mild, and shouldn’t last more than a day or two. If they do persist more than 2 days, contact us as soon as possible. Common mild side effects include: swelling at the site of vaccination, slight fever, loss of appetite, lethargy, sneezing, and coughing. Less common side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, facial swelling, and difficulty breathing. If any of these develop, don’t wait, contact us immediately.

Take advantage of National Immunization Awareness Month to get your pet up-to-date. At Paw Prints Ltd, your pet’s health and well-being are our first priority. Please contact us if you have any questions, or need more information on vaccinating your pet.
